Robert Mondavi Cabernet aged in Bourbon Barrels

Last night we had this for a second time and I actually bought 2 at HEB, the price was unbelievable. It is a 2016 from Monterey County, a California coastal vineyard aging wine in Southern Bourbon Whiskey barrel. The result combined the deep fruity flavors of black cherry and blackberry with the time lapse of at least 3 months for an added sweet oaky flavor. These whiskey-barrel wines are few and far between. An innovative test of a few wineries'  looking for a new aging process. They age a percentage of the wine in wine barrels and a smaller percentage in the whiskey barrels. This seems to me a novelty or a fad but if a winery is short on wine barrels and the next best thing it can find is whiskey barrel, then use what you have because the taste is only slightly altered.


I paired this with a spiced up turkey burger with the addition of chopped onion and pimentos below.
